An entrepreneurial, mission-driven, and visionary strategic leader, Dr. Shlomy Kattan has been leading organizations at the intersection of technological innovation and life-long learning for two decades. Dr. Kattan’s mission is to foster more opportunities for individuals to reach their greatest potential. He achieves this by working closely with distinguished business leaders; Federal, State, and local policy makers; and prominent industry experts to shape the future of learning and workforce development. An internationally respected voice in setting strategy, developing partnerships, and driving innovation, Dr. Kattan is sought out as a thought leader and advisor in the education technology and social impact sectors.

Currently, Dr. Kattan is an Executive Director at the XPRIZE Foundation, the global leader in designing and implementing large-scale innovation competitions to address humanity’s grand challenges. Dr. Kattan leads the Foundation’s Learning and Human Potential Domain, with active prizes including the $15M Global Learning XPRIZE and the $7M Barbara Bush Foundation Adult Literacy XPRIZE, for which he serves as the Prize Lead. In this capacity, Dr. Kattan spearheaded a +500-person and +60-organization effort to build the single largest basic skills adult literacy program in the U.S. and introduce much-needed technological transformation to a stagnant sector.

Prior to joining XPRIZE, Dr. Kattan was Co-founder and CEO of Kudo!, an award-winning education technology startup which he led through successful fundraising rounds to become the leading children’s language education app in five LatAm markets. Dr. Kattan was previously a Consultant at The Boston Consulting Group, one of the world’s premier strategy consulting firms, where he advised senior leaders at Fortune 100 companies on strategy and operations for projects resulting in over $500M in client ROI. Prior to joining BCG, Dr. Kattan had a ten-year career in both traditional and tech-enabled education.

Since 2016, Dr. Kattan has served as Board Chair of seven schools in the Alliance College-Ready Public Schools network, the largest charter school network in Los Angeles and larger than 75% of all school districts in California. As Board Chair, Dr. Kattan has led these schools through successful charter renewals during a period of rapid growth. He is also among a small group of internationally renowned thought-leaders who serve on the Advisory Board of the P.I.E. Challenge, a first of-its-kind competition in Israel funded by the 8200 Alumni Association and the Trump Foundation for Education to promote personalized learning solutions in high school math classrooms.

Dr. Kattan holds a PhD and MA in Education, and a BA in Italian and Legal Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, where he was a Wenner-Gren Foundation Fellow and from which he graduated with High Honors and Distinction. He has won numerous prestigious academic awards and has published widely in leading scholarly journals. Dr. Kattan is an investor in and advisor to education and healthcare startups. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children. He has lived and worked in the United States, Israel, Brazil, Chile, and Ecuador, and speaks seven languages.
