I was moved and excited that we’re finally acknowledging what we all know yet turn a blind-eye to the problems of cyberbullying and the lack of support available because the school administration, teachers, law enforcement, and even parents of the victims are limited in their power to do something about it and only standby as bystanders until more drastic consequences happen with the victims, like suicide. As a parent of a child going through it quietly and becoming more resilient, thank God. Yet, I also quietly worry that one day it’ll get worse. Luckily, we’ve managed to get involved with our schools and LAUSD is more engaged in educating their students, parents, and community. Unfortunately, it’s not enforced statewide because my niece was a victim of cyberbullying for 2 years at Diamond Bar High, as class president for 2 years with her 3 fellow student council members conspiring together to make her last 2 years of high school a daily nightmare. Luckily, her mom was finally supported by the new principal to suspend 2 of the 3, while 1 got off as bystander because there was no proof of involvement and none of the students would step up to speak up for her as an eyewitness. Her resilience and family support got her through it and now she’s a freshman at Dartmouth. I’d love to hear more success stories to inspire and support victims of cyberbullying so they can survive and thrive too.
I just seen the story on the Drs.
Heartbreaking. So sad these issues are going on with little to no consquences. Stay as strong and keep moving forward.
